Ice Bucket Challenge Freezes U.S. Senate Race in Iowa

U.S. Senate Candidate Stewart Throws Ice Bucket Challenge at Harkin, Ernst and Braley

Cedar Rapids, Iowa - August 11, 2014 - Iowa businesman Rick Stewart parked his signature red and white mountain bike behind him and threw five gallons of ice water on his head today, then challenged Iowa Senator Tom Harkin and Senate hopefuls Bruce Braley and Joni Ernst to do the same.

"It's all in good fun," said Stewart, "but more than that it's for a good cause. Lou Gehrig's disease - ALS - still has no cure. Research dollars are scarce, and if throwing ice water on my head helps, I'm in for the ride."

Stewart posted a video of his ice bucket escapade on his YouTube channel and his Facebook account. In it he extends a friendly challenge to the three others, saying, "Let's get the job done." He also posted the challenge on Twitter.

"If I'm all wet, it's only fair that Tom, Bruce and Joni get all wet, too," he quipped.

The terms of the challenge demand a person either pour ice water on their head and post a video of it online, or donate $100 to an ALS charity. Stewart says he did both. "I should have just written the check," he mocked, "but somebody's ego got in the way."
